Up for sale is an exceptionally rare copy of Billy Childish’s landmark 2004 artist book and exhibition catalogue, Handing the Loaded Revolver to the Enemy: A Homage to Vincent Van Gogh (#19 of 100).
Published in July 2004 by Steve Lowe at The Aquarium Gallery (now L-13 Light Industrial Workshop), this was the very first artist book L-13 produced with Billy Childish. The publication accompanied his famous exhibition featuring 30 reimaginings of Van Gogh masterpieces, portraits, and related works.
This is a heavily customized, handmade book containing:
Original Signed Woodcut: Features an original "Death's Head Moth" woodcut print on newsprint, hand-signed and dated by Billy Childish, tipped in on the front endpaper.
Hand-Painted Cover: Hand-bound in heavy canvas, featuring a painted "V for Victory" emblem on the front cover.
Signed & Numbered: Number 19 from a strict edition of only 100 copies, signed and numbered by the artist.
Production: 82 pages featuring pigment-printed photographs of the exhibition paintings on heavy stock interspersed with Billy's text pieces on lighter paper. Bound by an artisan bindery in Stirling, Scotland.
